Q: What is an Urban Kibbutz?
A: An Urban Kibbutz is a community of different groups of young educators and activists living together in shared households. They function as a single financial unit, living ideals of equality and cooperation.
Unlike the traditional rural kibbutz, these are located in an urban environment, keeping them in touch with what is happening in Israeli society, and allowing them to be a part of the larger community.
Q: Who can participate, When does the program start?
A: The program's beginning date is September 2019, it'll last 4 months. Participants should be the ages of 20-30 years old. However, exceptions can be made in some cases.
Q: Where will the program take place?
A:The program will take place in the beautiful city of Haifa. Haifa is the 3rd largest city in Israel and a major high-tech industry hub. Haifa is located between the Mediterranean Sea and Mount Carmel and offers amazing views, beaches, culture, night life and more.
Haifa is a unique city where coexistence between Jews, Muslims and Christians plays a key role in everyday's life. The city celebrates holidays of all faiths and offers a unique atmosphere which is the perfect settings for a program like ours!
Q:How much does it cost?
A:The Urban Kibbutz program is a Masa recognized program, which means our participants will enjoy generous grants. The cost of the program before the grant - $7,500. The amount of the grant changes according to participant's age, location and family needs. Most grants start from $1,250 and can reach up to $4,500 and more. The tuition includes health insurance, room and board, activities and transportation. It does not include air-fare.

Q:How will my schedule look like during the program? Where will I live?
A:Participants will live together in one or two apartments in the up-and-coming neighborhood of the Hadar. The group will practice running a shared household on a budget and will be part of the larger Urban Kibbutz in Haifa.
All participants will study Hebrew in an Ulpan in Haifa, enjoy trips and activities around Israel as a group and most important - engage in social activism!
There will be different options for that; Teaching English in a local school, working on agriculture, engage in social political research or work in journalism.

Q:Social activism is important, but will I gain any professional skills to advance my career?
A: Yes! All social activism options will help you acquire skills for your future! At the research center and at the Davar Rishon News paper you'll learn about different research and writing techniques, you'll publish articles and learn about current issues in Israeli society! At the Cooperative High school you'll assist children with their English studies at a unique high school that emphasize values of democracy,equality and social justice - you'll experience new ways of approaching education!
At the Dror Orchards or Agricultural Education you'll get to work in one of Israel’s famous leading industries. You will experience it first hand and lead English speaking groups of youth from different parts of the world in working the fields while learning about cooperative agriculture and socialist thinking.
